The filler forms the body of the cigar, and contains a mixture of small pieces of leave. These small pieces can count up to more than 20 different sorts of tobacco (the so called “blend”).
All sorts contribute to this mixture and are put together in a certain proportion to create an even balanced blend. The blend of tobaccos defines in the end the smell, taste, combustibility and the aroma of the cigar.
The filler of the cigar is being kept together by a strip of tobacco leave, the so called binder.
The binder has to be firm as well as supple in order to bundle the filler and form a well shaped cigar.
The wrapper leave at last is a small strip of the finest tobacco, spirally wrapped around the filler.
Because the wrapper forms the outside of the cigar it has to be totally sound so no air can get through. In addition it has to have a smooth brown colour and its taste and aroma must be in balance with the rest of the cigar.
It is not a surprise that the best tobaccos are being used for the wrapper leaves. Its origin is often Sumatra
